Summer Reading List

So I'm doing something this summer that I've never done before; I'm reading! I made up a little summer reading list. I never used to read in the summer, not even when I had to for book reports and whatnot. I'm turning into a nerd.

Sadface

So far these are the books I have on the list....

Slaughterhouse Five - Amazing!
Frankenstein
Catch 22
Catcher in the Rye (I've never read it before!)
A Farewell to Arms

I made this list to see if I can get through em all. It's somewhat of a goal for the summer. I'm pretty sure I can get through em, but I want to keep adding books to the list. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

The Divine Comedy

So I started reading The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri a couple of weeks ago (Dante's Inferno; Purgatorio; and Paradiso). I've been wanting to read it for a while, but I just never had the time. It's honestly one of the hardest books I've ever read. I personally hate poetry and books written in Old English - The Divine Comedy is both of those in one! As hard as the book is, I'm really enjoying it.

I'm kind of speeding through it, just because I know I'm gonna reread it. Hopefully I get used to it and it won't be such a tough read. I'm planning on finishing Dante's Inferno sometime next week and starting Purgatorio right away.

I highly recommend it, but it's not an easy read at all.

Limbo

So I just finished reading a book called "Limbo" by Alfred Lubrano. I can honestly say it's one of the best books I have ever read. It's about a man who grew up in blue-collar Brooklyn and ended up graduating from Columbia; getting his Masters degree; and evidently getting out of the blue-collar world and moving to the white-collar world. He has this feeling of not belonging in either world, but he's somewhere in between - his very own Limbo. The whole book talks about his transition between the worlds. He also interviews many people dealing with the same transition, but their stories are much different.

I loved the book because I felt he wrote it just for me. I feel like I'm dealing with the exact same problems that all the people in this book are going through. I'm a first-generation college student and my parents are always asking me what good school is gonna do for me.

Limbo really is an amazing book and I highly recommend it to everyone - especially first-generation college students. You won't regret it!

Hard Times

Hard Times is the new book I'm reading. It's the author - Studs Terkel - interviewing people who experienced the Great Depression first hand. Obviously, it's very depressing. It's not all sad though. There are some cool stories in it; and there are so many different perspectives. There are actually some people who made money during the Depression. Even though I just basically started reading, it's a really good book and I definitely recommend it - especially if you want to witness real life stories of what went on during that time - not just what you read in the textbooks.

Fucking Niall....

Ah the fun one can have with a macbook.

Read This! It has me hooked. I wanna do something in advertising now. I'm looking for a summer internship somewhere. Anyone know of any advertising agency that has internships in the summer? I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh and I love Amanda La Salle. She knows why.

Yay 50th post! Never thought I'd last this long (that'swhatshesaid).

Good Day

School was decent. Instead of actually doing work in my Accounting class, I doodled an awesome monster.

I found a fun new book to read - Adland: A Global History of Advertising by Mark Tungate. The title basically explains it all

After class I went to Best Buy with Niall and I Got DaDa a TomTom for his Birthday. He's been wanting one for a while now so I figured what the hell.

I also realized I really wanna play Guitar Hero: Metallica. It looks fun as hell.

Then it was off to Niall's for some Gears of War 2. I am starting to hate Gears.

We got bored relatively quick and decided to watch Fido; a movie about a boy who basically gets a pet zombie.

It was kinda bad, but a lot better than expected.

And now, I'm doing 3 projects while listening to Pantera and Ninjasonik. Sadface.

Doodle of the Day

I'm gonna try to have a new doodle for you guys each day. No promises though.

On a side note; I finished the DaVinci Code today. I loved it, and it really got me into a reading mood. I really wanna read something else now. Suggestions?

I Just Finished Reading Watchmen.

It was actually really good. I didn't really like the ending, but overall it was awesome. I don't see myself liking the movie though.
